What travel documents do I need to get into Mexico?

For US citizens a valid passport is required. US residents can find information from the United States State Dept. web page at travel.state.gov/mexico.html. Different rules apply for citizens of other countries.

What is the currency in Mexico?

The currency is the Mexican peso. The US dollar is accepted in the most of places throughout Cozumel. Larger restaurants and hotels also accept credit cards and travellers cheques. You can exchange money at hotels, money exchange booths and at the banks in downtown. ATM machines are located in the main plaza.

Telephone & Internet Services

They are easy and cheap. There are also lots of public telephones and calling stations that offer calls to the US and the rest of the world for small fees. Be aware of credit card or collect calls made from street phones. You may come home to find a bad surprise on your next statement.

Do we need sunscreen?

Yes. The sun is very hot in Cozumel and sunscreen is strongly recommended but it always must to be biodegradable in order to take care of the environment.

What is the weather like?

Cozumel is a tropical island, hot. March through May gets less rain and warm air temperatures. June, July and August are very hot and humid. This is a great time if you like warm summer nights. In September and October the weather is more turbulent. During the day, weather is wonderfully hot and humid, but there is also the possibility of hurricanes. November to February the weather is spilled by occasional 'Nortes' (north) winds that are a bit cool. December is very busy at Cozumel due to the holidays.

What should I wear?

Shorts, t-shirts, caps and sandals are ok. Some nice restaurants may expect a higher level of casual. You must bring a light jacket or a windbreaker, just in case it gets breezy afternoon-night.

What is electricity in Cozumel?

Standard 110 volt as in the US but we still recommend you to bring an adapter with you.

What is Cozumel´s Time Zone?

Cozumel is in the Central time zone.
